Invitation of organizing committee - Orienteering
Dear friends of sport
Orienteering races are mostly held in a forest. Sprint races are also organized in cities and especially in old town districts. With the race in PIRAN we would like to present orienteering to local people, recreational runners, families and children who like nature and sport activities in nature and urban areas. Our aim is to show what kind of sport orienteering is and show that orienteering is also a high performance sport discipline.
In foreign countries orienteering (especially in Scandinavia) is one of the most popular sport in nature and very popular recreational sport for all. People practise orienteering from 6-90 years.
When we have started to prepare the race we tried to have in mind all aspects which are important to prepare visible and as much as possible high level sport event. Piran with its unique urban architecture is perfect place for orienteering also for the best orienteers. Orienteering day will reach the peak with the start of the best orienteers in category men/women - MW21 ELITE.
Sprint race is interesting and give excitement to runners, spectators, media and sponsors. Sprint race will start with children and family race which is suitable for all beginners without orienteering skills.
Sprint race will count for Slovenian national sprint championship, WRE (World ranking event) and centri storici FVG (Italy). We would like to invite all runners to take part at this remarkable event which is part of the Sport Festival. Event also has promotional view for city of PIRAN and Slovenian tourism at seaside.
One of our main wish is also to present orienteering to Slovenian public and media and popularise this sport discipline, especially among children and youth. We would like to expose also our wish which is to host establish international sport event Park World Tour. Our intention is to prepare high class sport event in 2007 with the best international athletes and to organize PWT races in Slovenian seaside (Koper, Izola, Piran) or Ljubljana with races in Italy and Croatia.
PWT is well recognised high class event which aim is to promote orienteering all around the world. Last year PWT celebrated 10-th anniversary.
The closest PWT event which was held near us is Venice 1997 and Maribor in 2000. We hope that orienteering will be attractive for many people and we will be able to bring back PWT to Slovenia in May 2007.
