Numbers bibs are different color for competitive categories (yellow) and non-competitive categories (blue).

Entries on the day of competition

On the day of competition entries will be possible only for following categories: kid's course A, kid's course B, OPEN, BEGINNERS, FAMILY and ŠOT. Runners in those categories do not need a SI card. The entry desk will close at 12 noon.

Quarantine for ELITE runners

A compulsory meeting of all competitors in categories M21E and W21E will be held in EPICENTER at 1 pm. We will try to find an agreement to postpone the start of the quarantine to 3.15 pm (by the assumption of following the fair-play concept).

The list of runners who will participate in the presentation on the main stage at 3.30 pm will be available in the quarantine.

How to win SPRINT race?

Normally just running is not enough. Why? Because time is running also when you read the map, stopping at control points, make decisions about route choices, running in wrong alley, etc.

It is a lot of small rules which makes that your seconds are a little bit shorter than seconds of your competitors.

To know half of that rules could be enough to win the race in PIRAN but maybe following even all the rules could be good enough just for second place. Who knows?

It is less than one month to the competition. Organizer expects around 300-350 runners. It seems that elite categories (MW21E) will be the largest ones.

SOUTH EAST FEDERATION'S CONGRESS

Italian orienteering federation (FISO) and Slovenian orienteering federation (OZS) made an

agreement to prepare South east Federation's congress which will be held in PIRAN,

Slovenia from 13-14th of May 2006.

Italian Orienteering Federation would like to establish a permanent coordination committee

among Orienteering Federations of South - East Europe in order to:

• Organize common training camps

• Exchange technical experiences

• Organize International Conferences on technical subjects

• Organize and promote a consistent calendar of International events, including multiday events.

Invited Federations are:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia,

Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia.

The purpose of the photo contest is the promotion of orienteering in Slovenia. All winning photos will be published at the organizers official web pages and in Orienteering Today magazine.

The organizer has decided to publish some photos of the potential course inside the city of Piran in order to introduce the structure of the course to all the competitors. In case of rain the stone made streets can become very slippery, so be aware. Photos are located in the Photo gallery.

The use of appropriate running shoes is more than appreciated.

National sprint championship in Piran which counts also for WRE will also be covered by the printed media.

Organizer made agreement with ORIENTEERING TODAY, publisher of the best international orienteering magazine to become official International media partner. Organizer is trying to present orienteering to media in different ways, but most of all we would like to welcome all runners to apply for the event and try »real« orienteering with the map which has been produced specially for this event. Sports Festival 2006 got support from Kliping d.o.o. company and we are glad about their decision to help us at media coverage of the event.

Cooperation with Italian regional orienteering federation FISOFVG

In recent years Slovenian orienteering federation made a significant step to make better cooperation with Italian regional orienteering federation FISOFVG. Slovenian national competition calendar is prepared with the help of orienteering clubs who have desire to prepare events that count for more than one league and in 2006 we will have some events that count for different leagues at both side.

Lipica OPEN traditionally counts for 3 Region Cup (Trofeo 3 Regioni) and so was the same also this year. In March we had a great start in the season. In April there will be a MTBO event in Slovenj Gradec which counts also for FISOFVG and KOLV (Austrian regional orienteering federation – Kartner) MTBO championship.

In May follows one of the most promising event of this year. Sprint Event in Piran which will count for Slovenian national championship and also for one of the four events in regional league Trofeo Centri Storici FVG. This is a league with events which are prepared in old parts of the cities and are very popular among athletes.

All above mentioned events also count for club championship FVG - Trofeo Dal Cin. Cooperation will follow also with the race Valbruna in Italy which will count for FISOFVG, KOLV and Slovenian national championship – relay and as second event for 3 Region Cup. And at the end of the season in October there will be the final event for 3 Region Cup in Velden (Austria) and we will also see an example of organizers cooperation (FISOFVG and OK Nova Gorica) at the event in Gorizia/Nova Gorica which counts as a final event for Centri Storici FVG league, Centri Storici FVG Championship and OLP (Orientacijska liga Primorske).

I'm the best

Sport club "ŠKID - I am the best" from Portorož will convert Portorož to a big recreational sport city for second time in a row. A lot of different sport activities will be organised in 2006 starting already in March with 10KM running called "Povežimo soline" (Run from Sečovlje Salina Park to Strunjan Salina Park).

The most interesting month will be May with SPORT FESTIVAL as the biggest sport event.

FESTIVAL OF SPORT 2006
During 3 weeks of May Piran municipality will host a very big sport event with different sport disciplines. All activates are scheduled at the end of weekends on 14th, 20th and 27th of May in Piran, Lucija and Portorož. Sport athletes from recreational level to best EU athletes can submit their entry in every sport discipline.

Sunday 14th of May

Opening ceremony and start of short races at Tartini square followed by Orienteering races(school orienteering, Slovenian national championship in SPRINT and also WRE event for the best athletes.  

Saturday 20th of May

Sprint races and half marathon roller skating in Lucija. Organizer expects around 1000 participants. In the evening 7KM night run.

Saturday, 27th of May

Central beach of Portorož will be the finish area for Triathlon race. Organizer is preparing different courses (sprint triathlon, team triathlon and My first triathlon). The most prominent event will be European cup in Olympic Triathlon (1,5km swimming, 40km cycling, 10km running). Organizer expects around 100 best EU triathlon athletes and all the best Slovenian triathlon athletes.  

Maps from previous Slovenian National Sprint Championships are published

All competitors can find maps from previous Slovenian sprint championships in the table on page Sprint orienteering / O - Sprint in Slovenia.

For the first time a Sprint race will be organized in a 100% urban area. Organizer decided to publish two map samples of the PIRAN map. You can also try to solve puzzles of those samples. Look in the section Media and promotion.

Mappers of the map PIRAN are: Dani Lebar (SLO), Jan Drbal in Zdeněk Sokolář (CZE).

It is not forbidden to visit Piran before the event. Organizer will prepare further instructions about using other maps of PIRAN and walking areas for event day 14.5.2006.

Information for all participants of SPORT FESTIVAL

Organizer OK TRZIN prepared Bulletin 1 – Orienteering which includes daily program and Invitation. Because of a tight daily program and some specific rules (urban area) we ask all competitors to carefully read all the info in the Bulletin.

Organizer will prepare detailed information in Bulletin 2. It will be published at the end of April. We expect also a group of newcomers - please read all the information about the race in advance.

At the Slovenian seaside there hasn't been any orienteering activity on national level for a long time - the main reason is that the region hasn't any orienteering clubs at the moment. We hope that this orienteering event which is included in SPORT FESTIVAL will be a good motivation for local recreational runners.

Sport event of European interest

Next year Piran and Portorož will host two large sport events (Orienteering and Triathlon). Both events count also for international ranking points. (Triathlon - ETU points, Orienteering - WRE points)

Sport-cultural and educational organization ŠKID organised 12 different recreational sport events in 2005 and made quite a big change on the local sport area in Piran municipality. A few thousand recreational sport people and spectators came to those events. The most important event was Triathlon Casino Portorož which was organized with finish line on the central beach of Portorož. The organisation of Triathlon was very good and a lot of people came to Portorož also from abroad.

This year ŠKID has decided to organize a SPORT FESTIVAL from 14th - 27th of May in Piran, Portorož and Lucija. Not yet finalized programme consists of:

• PIRAN - Running during church bells, judo, orienteering (national championship and WRE - World ranking event).

• LUCIJA - Sprint speed roller skating, marathon on rollers, night running trough Portorož

• PORTOROŽ - European Triathlon - ETU prestige race (1500m swimming, 40 km cycling, 10km running) relay triathlon and my 1. Triathlon

Both events (Orienteering and Triathlon) are in the calendar of the International sport federations. This means that national federations will adjust their calendars also to this events and in May we can expect some best European athletes to fight for WRE and ETU points.

ŠKID is pleased with the trust and chance which was given to them but they also see a responsibility to prepare this sport event in the best possible way and present the beauty and hospitably of Slovenian Istria.
